On 25 October 2016, the European Commission published its new Work Programme, entitled: ‘Delivering a Europe that protects, empowers and defends. This year’s Work Programme proposes 21 key initiatives, 18 REFIT proposals, 19 withdrawal proposals, and 34 priority pending proposals. These proposals include: a proposal to amend the EU’s anti-dumping legislation, the implementation of the Action Plan on the Circular Economy, REFIT of the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive, prioritizing the proposals on the Emissions Trading System and on amending the existing waste legislation. On the basis of the Work Programme, the Commission, European Parliament and Council will now work on a Joint Declaration on commonly agreed objectives and priorities for 2017, to make ensure that these proposals are adopted swiftly.
