The European Commission has recently launched a new initiative dedicated to sustainability requirements for batteries.
This initiative aims to improve the sustainability, energy and environmental performance of batteries placed on the EU’s internal market in view of the increasing demand for batteries and of the dependance of the EU on raw material suppliers from unstable third countries.
The Initiative foresees up to two stakeholder meetings on the findings of a preparatory study conducted by the Commission services, an open public consultation in Q1 2019, a meeting of the Ecodesign Consultation Forum in Q2/Q3 2019 and ad hoc consultations with key stakeholders.
The CRM Alliance has contributed to the ongoing discussion on sustainable batteries.
