CRM-A attends Raw Materials Summit in Berlin

The CRM-A and several of its Members attended the EU Raw Materials Summit organised by the European Raw Materials Alliance (ERMA) from 23 to 25 May in Berlin. The purpose of the Summit was to provide a general and holistic view of the raw materials ecosystem both at a European and international level.

The event hosted a wide range of industry stakeholders that presented the latest innovations and discussed the most relevant topics from across the raw materials value chain. It was an occasion for policymakers to discuss the crucial role of CRMs in present and future EU challenges, together with representatives from the industry.

Commissioner for the Internal Market Thierry Breton announced the Commission's intention to draft a legislative file for raw materials within the RePowerEU plan, while Commissioner Šefčovič mentioned the CRM shortages.

CRM-A President Martin Tauber participated in a panel on the magnesium industry, where DG GROW's Joaquim Nunes de Almeida and industry stakeholders discussed the recent magnesium shortage, the European Commission's Working Group on Magnesium and the potential of magnesium projects in Europe. Dr. Bernd Martens, Chairman of CRM-A member Verde Magnesium, also participated in the panel, where he shared Verde Magnesium's project in Romania.

Ines Van Lierde, Secretary General of CRM-A member EuroAlliages participated in a panel on light-weighting and high-performance materials, where she shared her expertise on the silicon industry. The session addressed how a transition from high-performance products design to holistic industrial supply management can be achieved.

The CRM-A was glad to attend the three-day summit and thanks EIT Raw Materials and ERMA for providing such insightful discussions.
